Some trips are about the kilometres. This one was about the people, and about three places that still feel unreal no matter how many times we see them.
The Nawamis
We started among the Nawamis, the round stone tombs that have stood in this valley for thousands of years. Standing next to them in the morning light, with the desert completely silent around us, everyone slowed down without being asked.
Dragon Head and the Big Dune
From there the landscape kept changing: the strange rock profile of the Dragon Head, known locally as Makhroom, and then the Big Dune, climbed slowly and run down in seconds, with a lot of laughing on the way.
Bedouin food, desert company
The day ended the way the best desert days do, sitting on the sand around a Bedouin meal, sharing stories with people who had been strangers that morning.
